Establishing a better quality of life for the single mum at Lembah Subang flat

Remember the single mum with two toddler boys living in a no-electricity unit with leaking roof at the Lembah Subang flats? You may read a brief introduction about them under Family #2 in this post.

The kind Puan Siti finally managed to get hold of the single mum after several attempts. From our contributions of RM900, several tasks were carried out to give this family a better quality of life. With the help of Suresh – a flat manager there – they managed to secure the single mom a better unit at a lower floor.

There were lots of rubbish inside the unit but the electrical wiring is working fine.  Here are some photos of the unit’s previous condition:

I have been lousy in following-up and helping out due to a rather overwhelming morning sickness, but Puan Siti has generously dedicated her time and effort to set up the unit for them. She has:

  1. Hired a cleaner to clean up the place
  2. Placed deposit at TNB for electricity (RM203)
  3. Get rubber mats for the flooring (RM190)
  4. Install three door knobs and two doors (RM250)
  5. Install lightings (RM20)
  6. Install taps for kitchen, toilet and bathroom (RM30)
  7. Workmanship fees for Suresh for conducting task #3 to #6 (RM100)
  8. Help with moving the family’s furniture from their old unit

The family is currently living in their new unit already.

Puan Siti also met with the person in-charge from Kebajikan Masyarakat and helped the single mum appeal for monthly donation to cover her rental and utility bills. She currently works as a cleaner and earns around RM800 monthly, and is left with only RM300 to survive for a month after paying babysitter fees, milk for her kids and food.

When I have regained my energy – hopefully once after the first trimester is over – I hope to visit the family with some toys, books and food. I’ll keep you posted.

My utmost appreciation goes to Puan Siti who single-handedly managed everything and ensured the young family is well taken care of. She is truly an angel sent from above.

If you are keen to reduce her burden and help out with their monthly rental (RM150), pre-school education for her toddlers or other expenses, please contact me here.
